BEHIND THE CURTAIN

Behind the Curtain is a feminist film project. Developed from the belief that our identities are affirmed and our experiences validated when we see ourselves on screen, BTC is here to tell you that an intersectional feminist cinema is vital to our wellbeing, both as individuals and as a community. We celebrate cinema’s capacity to represent different perspectives on the world, honouring an inclusive approach to programming.

BTC is interested in an eclectic and engaged cinema, screening everything from experimental works, documentaries, narrative fiction and forms that tear down genre altogether. It supports feminist film criticism and writing and organisations that are working to end inequality.

Behind the Curtain is programmed and produced by Harriet Warman.

The first iteration of Behind the Curtain was a season of 7 film screenings in venues in Selkirk, Galashiels and Hawick in the Scottish Borders. It was funded by Film Hub Scotland, part of BFI Film Audience Network, and delivered in partnership with Alchemy Film & Arts and Moving Image Makers Collective. These screenings were all followed by an informal discussion, sometimes with the programmer or filmmaker, allowing the audience to talk to each other about what they’ve seen and heard, bringing together the differing perspectives of filmmaker, programmer and audience.
