In November 2021, Alchemy Film & Arts began a partnership with Folkestone Fringe (Kent, England) and Fine Arts Institute Leipzig (FAIL) as part of Cultural Bridge, a new pilot programme promoting partnerships between the UK and Germany that foster artistic collaboration and cultural democracy.

With investment from National Lottery through Creative Scotland in partnership with British Council, Fonds Soziokultur, Arts Council England, Arts Council Northern Ireland, Wales Arts International and Goethe Institut, the Cultural Bridge programme is designed to build new relationships and support intercultural exchange and dialogue around new approaches to socially engaged/participatory practice.

Our own partnership, one of seven funded as part of Cultural Bridge, explores borders: the imprisoning and institutional kind, the policed and geographical kind, the psychical and physical kind, and much more besides. Approaching conversation and knowledge exchange as worthwhile ends in themselves, the project draws upon ideas of play and methods of engagement to situate the distinct geographies and cultural contexts of Hawick, Folkestone and Leipzig in parallel to one another.
