Our Screening venue, Heart of Hawick are currently recruiting a full-time Projectionist/Technician.
Full-time Projectionist/Technician
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Heart of Hawick technician/projectionist post is to operate all technical equipment involved in festivals, events and shows, including conferences, film, satellite broadcasts, theatre, music and performances for children, and to work with colleagues in operating an efficient and effective film, satellite broadcast and live events service. The post includes working with a range of customers and users of services principally in Heart of Hawick, and on occasion in Community Venues across the Scottish Borders.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work as part of a team to prepare for and deliver a range of events including festivals, theatre, music, conferences, seminars, training events and bespoke hires, and ensure the delivery of live performances, satellite broadcasts and film events. You may be working alone or with others to ensure sound, film and lighting equipment is fit for purpose and available when needed.
2. To liaise with staff, hirers and prospective hirers in respect of technical queries and technical specifications, and to provide a get-in and get-out service to hirers, and to secure the buildings and equipment at the end of an event or working day.
3. Carry out working order checks related to sound and lighting equipment, and record any maintenance carried out and required.
4. To prepare, manage and directly provide services that ensure festivals, live events, satellite broadcasts and film screenings happen as planned. This includes scheduling freelance projectionists/technicians as required; tracking film delivery and uplift; ingesting films and KDMs; compiling ad/trailer play lists; taking part in satellite broadcast tests; changing quad boards; and updating plasma presentations.
5. To act as an additional usher for busier films and live events, to help in handing out promotional material, and on occasion to act as usher and projectionist for single manned films and live events, taking on all usher duties as required.
6. To ensure the safe and effective operation of a range of services related to sound, projection and lighting, and the safe usage of all relevant equipment.
7. Dealing with general enquiries, and developing and maintaining good relationships with customers and colleagues.
8. Be fully conversant with relevant Building Management Systems and Procedures, including Security, Fire and Evacuation Procedures, and Safety Procedures including First Aid.
9. The postholder may be asked to carry out any other tasks appropriate to the post.
SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The postholder will be responsible for technical equipment related to sound, projection and lighting, and for the safe operation of a variety of other equipment including display screens, control room equipment and building management equipment.
OTHER DETAILS:
From time to time the postholder may need to take on special duties related to events and this may involve arranging and taking part in travel, seminar events and sponsorship events, and may involve some additional working in Community Venues, much of which will be evening, weekend or holiday working.
