FILM TOWN TEAM

As Alchemy’s year-round programme expands, its volunteer programme continues to thrive. Taking pride in its warmth and inclusivity, Alchemy invites a wide range of people to help support the delivery of high quality events in Hawick, Scotland’s film town.

ALCHEMY FILM AND MOVING FESTIVAL 2020

This year marks ten years of Alchemy Film & Arts and the tenth Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival. Our Film Town Team consists of volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, from those with technical expertise to students building up experience, from those looking for new challenges to those wanting to meet new folk.

Depending on the role, volunteers will receive access to film screenings, free meals, training and – in the case of volunteer drivers – a year’s membership with Teviot Electric Car Club.

Read through Alchemy’s various volunteer roles below.

You can find our Volunteer Policy here, and sign up to join the team HERE or by emailing: hello@alchemyfilmandarts.org.uk.

We’re also hosting a volunteer social event for those who want to meet the team and find out more about this year’s festival. More information here.

DRIVE

If you love driving, talking away the miles and hearing stories from a range of fascinating people, volunteering at Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival could be for you. We are looking for people with good driving and conversation skills to collect festival guests from surrounding train stations and airports, then deliver them safely to Hawick.

This year, Alchemy Film & Arts have formed a dynamic partnership with the Teviot Electric Car Club in pursuit of environmental goals. As a result, volunteer drivers at this year’s Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival can collect filmmaker guests from their arrival points in a brand-new electric car. You will receive a free membership for Teviot Electric Car Club, worth £25, which you will be able to use for a full year.

As well as using a quarter of the energy per mile compared to a diesel or petrol engine, electric vehicles are free from omissions and offer a quiet, comfortable and responsive driving experience. Discover what it’s like to drive an electric vehicle, how to charge them and meet a few international filmmakers along the way.

We will provide you with some tasty meals and 45p per mile if you would prefer to use your own car.

FEEDBACK

Do you love chatting to new people and finding out more about them? We’re looking for good communicators to help capture visitor feedback. It’s the small things that matter: making sure people have a pen to fill out evaluation forms or enjoying a chat over festival experiences are important volunteer roles.

FESTIVAL RUNNERS

We’re looking for lively volunteers who can assist wherever they are needed at the drop of a hat. You’ll need to be like a chameleon and quickly blend into a variety of surroundings. It’s a super cool role where you will be helping to ensure the festival runs like clockwork.

MEDIA

If you love taking photos, and are rather nifty with a camera, volunteer as part of our festival media team. These roles are limited, and you must have experience. In return, you’ll gain access to all areas while capturing the buzz of the festival.

INSTALL

Some artists need help installing their artwork before the festival kicks off. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who loves being hands-on. You’ll be volunteering alongside an international selection of artists to install work of the highest quality.  Jobs like painting, cleaning, building and venue dressing will keep you busy.

HOST AN ARTIST

We’re on the lookout for Hawick residents who might have a room to spare for one of our visiting artists.

All they’ll need is a comfortable place to stay – most meals during the festival are organised in advance by the team. The duration of artist stays at the festival are variable, with some attending for a couple of nights, some for the full 30 April – 4 May festival and some attending earlier on the week of 27 April.

If you have a spare room, and would like to host an artist please let us know details of your spare room and availability.
