TRAVEL TO HAWICK:

The Festival hub and main screening venue is at Heart of Hawick – Tower Mill in Hawick, Scottish Borders, TD9 0AE. Visitors from London most often get the train to Carlisle, though some choose to fly to Edinburgh. Most of our international visitors fly to Edinburgh.

Festival shuttle bus to and from Edinburgh:
Please note that it is essential to book if you would like a place on either of the shuttle buses, running on Thursday 3rd and Sunday 6th April.

Return Shuttle immediately following the close of the Film Symposium (8:30pm)

Sunday, April 6th

Time: 9:00a.m.
Cost: By donation
Return Shuttle immediately following the close of the Festival (5:30pm)

By Air:
The closest International Airport is Edinburgh (EDI)
From there, get the Airlink 100 (Stance 19) bus, which runs from the airport to Waverley Bridge (near Princes Street and the main rail and bus stations). Buy tickets at the airport information desk, at the bus stop, from the driver or in advance online. It runs every 10 minutes with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes. Fare: Single £4.00, return £7.00 (reductions for children).

From Waverley, it is a short walk to Edinburgh Bus Station, where you can get the X95 bus service to Hawick. The bus takes around 2 hours. You can view the X95 timetable here.

Please contact us if you are planning on flying in to Edinburgh, as we may be able to pick you up from Edinburgh airport if your arrival time coincides with other filmmaker pick-ups we have planned.

By Rail:
The closest Rail Station is located in Carlisle, Cumbria. Tickets can be purchased through www.thetrainline.com.

There is a Rail link bus service from immediately outside Carlisle train station direct to Hawick, via bus X95. The bus journey from Carlisle to Hawick takes just over one hour. You can view the X95 timetable here.

Please contact us if you are planning on getting the train to Carlisle, as we may be able to pick you up if your arrival time coincides with other filmmaker pick-ups we have planned.

By Car:

Hawick is situated on the A7 which runs from Edinburgh to Carlisle. Hawick is also accessible by the A68.

Hawick is a 1h 30m drive from Edinburgh, or 2h 15m from Glasgow. From London it is best to allow 7hrs.

By Car (from the south-west):
1. Follow the A7 into Hawick
2. Turn right at the first roundabout on to ‘Tower Knowe’
3. Follow ‘Tower Knowe’ for about 100 metres uphill, passing the ‘High Street’. Tower Mill/Film House Café immediately on the right.

By Car (from the north):
1. Follow the A7 into Hawick, past the Police Station (on your right), and Teviotdale Leisure Centre (on your left)
2. At the roundabout turn right (3rd exit) – along Commercial Road, which is also part of the A7
3. Follow Commercial Road as it becomes Albert Place, and crosses a bridge
4. At the roundabout, go straight on (1st exit)
5. Follow ‘Tower Knowe’ for about 100 metres uphill, passing the ‘High Street’. Tower Mill/Film House immediately on the right.

By Car (from the south-east):
1. From the A68, just after the border – take the A6088 on your left.
2. Turn left on to the A698 – and into Hawick
3. Continue straight on at the roundabout (2nd exit), onto Bourntree Place, and then onto the High Street
4. Continue down the ‘High Street’, which ends directly in front of the Tower Mill/Film House Cafe

By Car (from the north):
1. From Edinburgh, take the A68 toward Jedburgh
2. Three miles before Jedburgh, turn right on the A698 and follow it into Hawick.
3. Continue straight on at the roundabout (2nd exit), onto Bourntree Place, and then onto the High Street
4. Continue down the ‘High Street’, which ends directly in front of the Tower Mill/Film House Cafe

We strongly recommend booking your accommodation early as many B&B’s sell out well before the festival starts. If, after contacting the B&B’s below you cannot find anywhere to stay, please contact us and we will see what we can do to help.
