ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The next edition of the festival is 3 – 6 April 2014.

Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is an international festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image. Our 2014 theme is ‘DreamLand’, focussing on film explorations of the natural world as a place of dreams, relating further to utopian dreams of a Scottish homeland – in Scotland’s Year of Homecoming, and the Scottish Referendum. The 4 day festival is held in the ex-industrial mill town of Hawick, in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland, from April 3-6th 2014. Building on the growing success of our first three editions, 2014 will be our fourth.

The Festival was initiated as a collaborative project between Borders Arts Trust, Heart of Hawick and Creative Arts Business Network (CABN) in 2010.  The first Alchemy festival was held in September 2010. Richard Ashrowan, a Scottish Borders based moving image artist, is Creative Director of the festival.

The annual festival is themed each year, retaining a focus on screening work that in some way relates to the natural world, to landscape and to humankind’s relationship with nature. The festival has a focus on high quality artistic projects and experimental short film, but also aims to mix this with thematically related feature length screenings.
