Using film as a way to come together, have conversations and strengthen community.
BOG MYRTLE AND FLAMETHROWERS
Karel Doing created Bog Myrtle and Flamethrowers in Hawick during an artist residency with Alchemy Film & Arts. Using local plants and plant-based chemistry, Karel worked with staff and volunteers from Burnfoot Community Futures and members of the Borders-based Moving Image Makers Collective.
Encompassing still images, film strips and triple-projection film loops, the exhibition is part of Forage/Image, an Alchemy Film & Arts project exploring the relationship between artists, landscapes and environment. Karel’s workshops were part of Film Town, Alchemy Film & Arts’s community-engaged creative learning programme.
More information about Karel Doing’s Phytogram (plant-based chemistry) method can be found here.
