Happiness is a Warm Projector is a program representing the first 10 years of the Experiments in Cinema international film festival. EIC is produced by Basement Films, one of the few remaining first generation micro-cinemas in the United States. Each year EIC brings the international community of cinematic undependents to Albuquerque, New Mexico to inspire a new generation of home-grown activists to recognise the value of their media voices and to participate in shaping future trends of cultural representation. For Basement Films undependent film/video artists are the modern day equivalent of the traveling troubadour, sharing the news of the day (literal and metaphoric) from their particular corner of the globe. Experiments in Cinema embraces this troubadour-tradition as we travel our programming around the world. For us, filmmaking has a cultural responsibility that transcends the pathetically produced, popcorn poo-poo that we have come to know as “going to the movies.”
