2019 SUBMISSIONS

Submissions for the 2019 Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival (2-6 May 2019) are open!

About Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival

  • Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival is an international festival of experimental film and artists’ moving image. Submissions of artists’ and experimental film from any part of the world are welcome – we celebrate a diverse range of works: the visually experimental, quietly poetic, formally radical, psycho-geographical, politically activist, culturally subversive, psycho-spiritual, the alchemically volatile, the underground and the bizarre. Conventional or commercial-style narrative dramas, animations and documentaries are less likely to be successful – unless they are truly original in form and content.
  • Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival is working towards its ninth edition. It is a not for profit venture, run by Alchemy Film & Arts. Alchemy Film & Arts is a registered Scottish charity (no. SC042142).
  • The next festival will take place over five days, 2-6 May 2019, in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland.
  • Our postal address is: Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival, 39-41a High St, Hawick, Roxburghshire, TD9 9BU, Scotland, UK
  • To contact us by email go here or join our mailing list.

We do accept and review submissions of works in other genre's, but these are only likely to be accepted if they evidence strong visual originality or are clearly experimental in form and content.
Films produced within the last 3 years will stand a greater chance of success.
We welcome submissions from all countries.
Please tell us about any specific space, technical requirements or minimum financial support this project may require. We do like to support a range of these projects, but financial support for installations and expanded cinema performances is extremely limited.

You can add a longer description if you like - this may be referred to in reviewing your film.
Please provide a short biography of the Director / Artist. At least 30 words but no more than 100 words. If selected, this may be published on our website.
Please provide a short filmography / exhibition history of the Director / Artist.
Please list any previous or forthcoming public screenings of the work submitted, including festivals and gallery installations.
Please select as many as you have available. We can screen all the above. Sadly, we can no longer screen 35mm.
Please tell us where we would get the print from - ie the name and address of the distributor/print holder and in which country. Please also tell us if the print is available free or whether screening fees would need to be paid. We can usually cover the costs of shipping for a limited number of film prints.

Please upload a still image from the submitted work, suitable for use on our website or printed publicity material should your film be accepted. Please make sure the image is 72dpi only - large images of 300dpi may cause your entry to be rejected.
If Alchemy shows this film, would it be a premiere screening in either Scotland, United Kingdom, Europe, International or the World? We do prefer work that has not previously been seen in Scotland, though premiere status is certainly not a requirement. We do not take gallery exhibitions into consideration for premiere status.
We prefer password protected Vimeo links for preview purposes. We do not accept Dropbox or WeTransfer files sent to us for preview purposes.
Please provide a link to an online preview (ie. Vimeo or equivalent), plus any password needed for access. We do not use services like Dropbox, WeTransfer or YouSendIt for preview copies. A video streaming service like Vimeo makes it much easier for us to preview your film. Please make sure the link and password remain valid for at least 10 months from the date of submission.
