YOUNG ALCHEMY MOVING IMAGE MAKERS

In this Year of Young People, Alchemy have been running a series of youth workshops in the months running up to the festival.


The installation programme includes a new work called Fr@gile, created by the Young Alchemy Moving Image Makers, a group aged 10-16 years old from the Borders area exploring communication throughout the analogue and digital ages and the barriers they face expressing themselves in everyday life.

The Young Alchemy Programmers have been following the same selection process that the Alchemy programming team use, to learn how to curate their own programme of short films. Reality Makes You Sleep, Dreams Keep You Awake will be screened as part of the main auditorium programme.

FREE MOVING IMAGE INSTALLATION WORKSHOPS
January/February 2018 (Saturdays)
Be part of creating a collaborative Moving Image Installation at the Alchemy Space in Hawick
Members of the Moving Image Makers Collective will work with participants over 5 sessions to create an installation that will be shown in an empty building space as part of The Alchemy Film Festival’s Installation programme in May 2018.

The sessions will look at the history of moving image installations and use out of the box thinking that could involve: working site-specifically; film; animations; multiple projections; sound; sculpture & performance.

Critics & Curators club
Young people (Ages 13 to 18) will have the opportunity to select & collaboratively curate a programme of short experimental films that will be screened as part of Alchemy Film & Moving Image Festival in May 2018. The group is up and running now, so unfortunately we can’t take on any more participants. You can, however, Watch this space for more details on the Screening!


FREE WORKSHOP TASTER SESSION

SCREEN BANDITA 16mm Direct Animation Workshop
Saturday 25 November 2017, 1-4pm
Get creative making wonderful abstract animations on 16mm celluloid film strips! This hands on workshop will demonstrate techniques to draw, paint, etch & collage directly onto the celluloid to create mesmerising moving image experiences. The film will then be projected so you can see your creations come to life on screen!
