FUNDRAISER: RACHEL MACLEAN – FEED ME, 7pm, 17th FEBRUARY

Join us for a celebratory screening of Rachel Maclean’s acclaimed British Art Show film Feed Me and find out more about Rachel’s work and Scotland + Venice. We will also be hearing directly from a young artist selected from the Borders to develop her practice and experience in Venice as part of the development programme.

In May 2017 the Scotland + Venice presentation at the world’s most prestigious contemporary art festival – the Venice Biennale will be curated by Alchemy Film & Arts. The presentation will be a new film commission by Edinburgh College of Art graduate Rachel Maclean.

The commission is supported by a professional development programme giving Scottish arts students the opportunity to live and work in Venice, developing their own creative practice and making new connections for the future.

It is important that a student from the Borders benefits from this opportunity and Catrina Barquist from Borders College has been selected to participate. Some funding has already been secured and in order to ensure it happens we are hosting an evening at Heart of Hawick, a chance to find out more about Scotland + Venice and to see some of Rachel Maclean’s work. Most importantly you can hear why this is an important opportunity for Catrina.

Tower Mill – Heart of Hawick are generously supporting this event and all proceeds from ticket sales will go directly toward funding this opportunity for Catrina.

Catrina Barquist is from Peebles and is studying art and design at Borders College. Catrina is interested in the application of paint onto skin, and how this can be a way of expressing thoughts, feelings and actions. She also has a big passion for photography and likes to combine these two art forms.

Catrina said:
“This is a huge opportunity for me because, not only is it a chance to work closely with Rachel Maclean’s process, it is a chance for me to study a different culture and take my own work to another level.”

Feed Me was commissioned by Film & Video Umbrella and Hayward Touring for British Art Show 8. Supported by Arts Council England and Creative Scotland.
