Artist Andrew MacKenzie joined us in the Alchemy Space for a public consultation on public art in Hawick.THE WATERSHED is aimed at connecting with the community of Hawick about current proposals and opportunities for Public Art connected to the Flood Protection Scheme, drawing to public attention the benefits this may offer.

Our Creative Director, Richard Ashrowan will be speaking at the Regional Screen Scotland about how we create a local film festival that is meaningful and engaging to our local community. Film festivals can benefit their communities in far-reaching ways, they bring people, venues, businesses and organisations together around a shared goal.

HOMEGROWN & WILD: In praise of Vegetables, in film and spoken word.
A screening of short experimental films in celebration of the humble vegetable, including a classic lesbian vegetable romance and an astonishing asparagus animation. Accompanied by a special talk and reading by Borders based author Fi Martynoga. Come along, and bring your favourite vegetable to add to our altar of vegetable appreciation! Full details here.

Please join us in Selkirk on Wednesday 20th September at Philiphaugh Community Centre for one of three Placemaking Breakfasts.
In the ‘Placemaking Surgery’, you will working across a number of creative activities and hear the placemaking perspectives of cultural producers, creative practitioners, planners and, most importantly, local community voices. The event will conclude with a panel discussion and ‘Ideas Station’ which will provide attendees with solution focused proposals to take forward independently. Full details here.

Two boxers appear to merge in Christine Lucy Latimer’s Mosaic; bodies seize, fall and burn in Dance of Death; a blurry Bugs Bunny eludes us in Interlude (Homage to Bugs Bunny) by Chris Meigh Andrews, meanwhile Meesoo Lee brings us ‘video zines’ 15 years before YouTube. Home movies, TV shows, press conferences – images of personal expression, power and violence – are shown to degrade and transform, given new meaning by artists using VHS. 40 years after the VCR was released in the UK and USA, this selection shows how video has been and continues to be an exciting and creative medium.

FUNDRAISER: RACHEL MACLEAN – FEED ME
Join us for a celebratory screening of Rachel Maclean’s acclaimed British Art Show film Feed Me and find out more about Rachel’s work and Scotland + Venice. We will also be hearing directly from a young artist selected from the Borders to develop her practice and experience in Venice as part of the development programme.
